Well, I started when I was 6 & I was in & out of jammin with people that wanted to get drunk & play parties. Although I didn't dissagree, I was serious.
I jammed with these cats in 1987-88-89 & my guitarist (Bill Boar) all of a sudden he got on this Metallica kick. I was listenin to Metallica since the beginning & people were sayin "what the fuck are u listenen to!" Anywho, that's all we played. I will say we played it well, & everybody in north dade & north miami loved it. My bass player was bad ass!! & Billy was sloppy but bad ass!! kind of like Jimmy Page (GOD) This is when Skid Row was new & GNR. We played thet shit too. Shout out to the Greynolds crowd! Then there was this party in NMB that we had to play. We were on a hiatus for about 5 mos. Talk about oh shit. Well, this dude named Ozzy had a flat bed truck in his backyard with a hydrolic lift. This thing hauled rebar or somethin. We set up on the truck. We towered over the people like playin at the Sportatorium Ah Ha! The Snortatorium! Anyhow, it was a couple of bucks to get in & the kegs were a flowin. We rocked but Billy had to look at me for the words. I didn't know it but I was being scoutted by some of the best Hardcore tallent ever to hit Ft. Lauderdale. Did I mention The sick hash was flowin around? This was the biggining of a new era, & I didn't know what was comming.
I was approached by a 2 long hairs & a skinhead. Are you serious with these guys? You look like the only one that knew what you were doing. Right then I reallized we sucked & they knew it. They were with Malicious Damage. These guys had shirts, stickers, fan mail & A kick ass demo, with the following songs, Can't Escape, Killing Season, Grave Robber & Death Row. I was told to meet up with Founder & lead guitarist Tony Tomaselli at his pad in Ft. Lauderdale the next week. So, I did. He dumped out an army bag full to the hilt with fan mail all over the world. Local magazine reviews for all over. Germany, & all over Europe. I listened to the demo & it was nothing like I ever heard. I accepted to try out.
I drilled myself night & day to play the songs like the old drummer & I felt good. I showed up to this small ass wearhouse with 3 longhairs & a skinhead. This place had a huge EV PA system & all Marshalls. TonyTomaselli,rhythem & lead, Bart Willet, rhythem & lead Andy Unger, Bass & Dave Dunn, Throat.
I played hard. These guys were serious. "play it again!" Yelled Dave! "Play it again & again!" Man this fuckin guy was an asshole, but I liked playin with these guys. They all went out side as I was starten to pack my kit. Tony came back in & said "sorry dude, but your in!" Some reason I felt Dave wasn't haven it, but I figured he'd get over it. He wanted me to play like Al ( the old drummer) I thought the old drummer was awsome! Dave I guess just wanted him there. The days ahead came. Dave was kind of a dick but was slowly accepting me. Then there was a celibration party at Clem's & Tony's & Scott's & Anna's house. I have to mention Raider & Piggie (Scotts Pittbulls) Well, we all partied & Tony & Bart called a meeting of the minds. Dave was drunk on Jack & fighting with Crista as usual. Well, Dave had issues with me being Jewish & him a skin & all. He used my drumming skills to cover that up. You need to practice more & get a better attitude. I told him to Fuck off & we were pushig & shoving each other. Bart & Tony stopped it & Andy, well he was being Andy. Needless to say it was for the better & we all became brothers. Oh yeah, Tony couldn't find his snake.
So, days later Tony found the snake in his drawer. Months later we were ready for a show. The question was where? There was no more Treehouse lounge. That was the home of local talent & Malicious. We got a gig in West Palm BCH at this place called the PIT. It was an upstairs club with a small stage & a big floor. Guess who did sound. Ken Mallone from M.O.D
I Thought that was cool. The show went well, although I played too fast & the songs were fast already. We played 12 song & covered The Cro-mags Don't Tread on Me & D.R.I's Violent Pasification. Dave Came out with this saying on stage "Peace to my Brother, Death to all Other!" Later shows at the Pit were played with a band called MeatLocker & they incorporated that saying in their band. Dave was Pissed. We played with Agent Orange & Social Distortion. That was a kick ass show. Dave ripped up one of his prize possesions.
The Nazi Flag. Everyone was on his shit & me & Dave became good friends. So During the song No More! he tore the flag up & the crowd went insane. It was a cool stunt that made a big impact on us & the fans. He was still into the nazi thing but he kept it low key. Dave Dunn. He used to be a hippy long hair that wanted hair like Dave Mustane & wore Moccosin boots & once in Malicious With a large Skinhead following he shaved his head & called him self a Skin. The Old Breed accepted him so therefore his alterego became reality. Not to Tony, Bart & Andy though. They knew Dave for a long time. Dave was a cool dude & a bad ass front man. At a show we'd play an intro with a smoke machine & the lights out & all you would here is the pacing & stomping on stage of Dave's Dr. Martins & then the lights would come on & we'd break into some serious Hardcore!!!
